Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Home Affairs Adviser, has said that the country’s law and order situation is better than ever before, and the law enforcement agencies are now much stronger and more active. He informed that special operations by law enforcement agencies will continue across the country until the upcoming national election.
Speaking at a press conference held on Monday after a meeting of the Core Committee on Law and Order at his office in the Secretariat, he said these things. Advisors from various ministries and senior officials of law enforcement agencies attended the meeting.
The Home Affairs Adviser stated, "The government takes a firm stance against any terrorist activities. Not only terrorism but anti-drug operations are also part of our ongoing activities. Law enforcement agencies are conducting operations against both simultaneously."
He assured that there is no security risk on the occasion of ‘Downfall and Escape Day’ tomorrow, August 5. He added, "We have kept all intelligence and field units prepared. There is no fear of any untoward incident."
Answering a question from journalists, the Home Affairs Adviser said that when he took charge, there was a sort of stagnation in the country’s security system, especially the police morale was very low. He said, "We have restructured the police force from that different and challenging situation. Now they are much more effective, organized, and capable."
Jahangir Alam Chowdhury further stated, "Though we are not 100% successful in every aspect, we are working to create a safe and peaceful environment as per public expectations. A good coordination has been established between the government, administration, and security forces to maintain law and order."
At the press conference, the Home Affairs Adviser appealed to the general public to maintain a peaceful environment and said, "We are on the highest alert to ensure that no one creates unrest around the election."
