Historic Leap in Rankings: Bangladesh Women’s Football Team on the Doorstep of the Global Stage

The Bangladesh women’s football team is standing at a unique moment in history, close to making a significant breakthrough. In the latest FIFA women’s football rankings, the team has achieved a record jump of 24 places, now positioned at 104th in the world. Their rating has increased to 80.51 points—marking the greatest progress in Bangladesh’s history in a single ranking update.

This remarkable advancement is largely attributed to the team’s outstanding performance in the Asian Cup qualifiers. In the qualifiers held in Myanmar, Bangladesh consecutively defeated Bahrain, hosts Myanmar, and Tajikistan. These three successive wins earned the team, popularly known as the “Sabinara,” a spot in the main round of the Asian Cup for the first time ever.
