Possible Brazil–Argentina semifinal showdown in World Cup, fans’ anticipation grows

Since the release of the World Cup schedule, possible knockout stage matchups have been at the center of football discussions. In particular, the possibility of a Brazil–Argentina clash has created huge excitement. If both teams successfully progress through their knockout matches, a highly anticipated South American showdown could take place in the second semifinal of the tournament.

For football fans worldwide, especially in Bangladesh, the Brazil–Argentina rivalry is always a major attraction. Alongside the match itself, fan emotions, debates, and celebrations make it one of the most talked-about events of the World Cup.

Brazil has already topped Group C with strong performances. In their final match in Miami, they defeated Scotland 3–0 and secured their place in the knockout stage. Their Round of 32 opponent will be Japan.

Argentina, meanwhile, has one group match remaining but has already confirmed top position in Group J after winning two matches. Their Round of 32 opponent will be the runner-up of Group H.

Argentina’s knockout path is also difficult, with possible opponents including Paraguay, Australia, or Belgium in the Round of 16. Portugal could be waiting in the quarterfinal, raising the possibility of a historic Messi–Ronaldo World Cup clash.

Brazil, on the other hand, must first overcome Japan, followed by potential matches against strong European teams such as Norway or France. England could await them in the quarterfinals.

If both teams win their first three knockout matches, a semifinal clash between Brazil and Argentina could take place.

Historically, the two teams have met four times in the World Cup, with Brazil winning twice, Argentina once, and one match ending in a draw. Their last World Cup encounter was in 1990, when Argentina won 1–0 on their way to the semifinals.
