Argentina have suffered a setback ahead of their second group-stage match after experienced defender Gonzalo Montiel was ruled out due to injury. The team now faces adjustments in their defensive setup under coach Lionel Scaloni.

The medical team confirmed that Montiel has suffered a quadriceps muscle injury in his right leg. The recovery process requires time, and the team has decided not to risk him in the upcoming match against Austria.

Montiel experienced discomfort during the first match against Algeria, after which Nahuel Molina replaced him on the field. Molina is now expected to start again at right-back in the second match.

Although Argentina started their World Cup campaign with a win, the team is treating the upcoming match as crucial to strengthening their position for the knockout stage.

There are also indications of further changes in the lineup. Nicolás Tagliafico may return after recovering from injury, which could bring new defensive combinations.

In attack, coach Scaloni may adjust his lineup to increase pace and offensive pressure, with players like Nicolás González and Julián Álvarez potentially earning starting roles.

Despite Montiel’s absence, Argentina remain confident in their squad depth and aim for a positive result against Austria.
