In Sunamganj’s Chatak Upazila, four leaders of the banned Awami League and its affiliated organizations were arrested during a special police operation called ‘Devil Hunt.’ The police carried out simultaneous raids across various areas of the upazila on Thursday night and detained them from their homes.
The arrested include Juned Hasan (34), Law Secretary of Chatak Upazila branch of Bangabandhu Professional Council, a resident of Bargopi village in Dolarbazar Union; Aminul Haque (44), Joint Convener of Chatak Sadar Union Jubo League; and Motashir Ali (58) and Sams Uddin (50) from Ramanagar area, Gobindganj Saidergaon Union.
Police sources stated that the operation was conducted throughout the day and night in different locations to ensure law and order and continue investigation of ongoing cases. As part of the operation, the four were arrested and later sent to court on Friday morning.
Chatak Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mizanur Rahman said, “‘Devil Hunt’ aims to suppress crime and ensure public safety. Necessary legal action is being taken against the arrested individuals.”
Locals mentioned that police presence and vigilance have increased in the area following the operation, and regular actions have restored a sense of security among the general public. Police also stated that the ‘Devil Hunt’ operation will continue and no compromises will be made in maintaining law and order.
