Reza Un-Nobi Al Mamun (53), former councillor of Ward No. 1 of Rajshahi City Corporation and an Awami League-backed leader, was arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) with drugs. The incident occurred around 9:45 pm on Friday near Talaimari Mor area in the city.
According to information from RAB-5, while driving at high speed, he lost control and his vehicle mounted the road divider. An angry crowd surrounded the vehicle, creating a tense situation. Upon receiving the news, the RAB patrol team quickly arrived at the scene and took him into custody.
During a search, six yaba tablets, one piece of marijuana, and 30,000 taka in cash were recovered from his bag. In initial questioning, Reza Un-Nobi admitted to drug use, according to RAB officials.
Sources from RAB revealed that he had previous allegations of drug use and there are a total of eight cases filed against him at various police stations. Major Asif Al Rajeq, deputy director of Rajshahi RAB-5, said that if they had not arrived in time, a serious untoward incident could have happened.
Currently, a case under the Narcotics Control Act has been filed against him at Motihar Police Station, and he has been handed over to the police.
