Election Only Possible with Consensus on PR Reform: Nahid

Elections in the country will only be possible if political parties reach a consensus on implementing and reforming the Proportional Representation (PR) system in the upper house of parliament, warned Nahid Islam, Convener of the National Citizens Party (NCP). He emphasized that there is no more time to waste debating who understands the PR issue and who doesn’t.

He made these remarks on Saturday (July 19) during a street rally in Cox’s Bazar, marking the 19th day of the “July March.”

The march, organized to commemorate the martyrs of the July uprising and to call for rebuilding the nation, began in the morning from the Cox’s Bazar Central Bus Terminal. It drew participation from youth and activists across nearly every upazila of the district.

Resonating with slogans about the 2024 uprising, the march covered nearly three kilometers and concluded with a public rally at the Public Library grounds. Both local and central leaders addressed the gathering, highlighting the urgent need for reform and condemning the rise of new “godfathers,” reminiscent of the fallen regime's rule.
