England international winger Noni Madueke has officially joined Arsenal from Chelsea for an initial transfer fee of £48.5 million, which could rise above £50 million with add-ons.

The 23-year-old was part of Chelsea’s squad at the Club World Cup in the US but left before the final against PSG to complete his move to Mikel Arteta’s side in London.

Madueke signed a five-year contract at Emirates Stadium and shared his excitement on Instagram, saying,
“I’m humbled and grateful to be here. Thanks to everyone who made this possible. Can’t wait to get on the pitch and repay the faith shown in me.”

Since joining Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven for £30 million in January 2023, Madueke made 92 appearances and scored 20 goals, playing a key role in their Conference League triumph last season.

He made his England senior debut in August 2024 and recently assisted Harry Kane’s winning goal against Andorra in World Cup qualifiers.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta described Madueke as “an exciting, powerful young forward with consistently high-quality performances,” adding that “he brings both club and international experience and will add real quality to our squad.”

However, the signing has faced backlash from some Arsenal fans. The hashtag #NoToMadueke trended online with over 5,000 signatures on a petition, and murals near Emirates Stadium were vandalized with “Arteta Out.”

Despite this, Arsenal’s management remained firm in their decision to sign him.

Madueke primarily plays on the right wing but can also play on the left, where he competed with Gabriel Martinelli last season. Statistically, Madueke outperformed both Martinelli and Bukayo Saka in key metrics such as expected goals, shots, touches in the opposition box, and progressive carries.

He is Arsenal’s fourth signing this summer, following goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea, midfielder Christian Norgaard from Brentford, and Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad. The club is also close to finalizing deals for striker Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting and defender Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia.

With these reinforcements, Arsenal is aiming to strengthen their attack and mount a serious title challenge in the upcoming season.
