DUCSU VP Candidate Sadik Kayem Alleges: “Husaina’s Narrative is Being Followed”

Sadik Kayem, the VP candidate from the Chhatra League-supported panel in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election, has alleged that the university administration is failing to take proper action regarding a case of sexual harassment against a student and is attempting to grant impunity to the offender.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, he said that when they demanded swift action against the student involved in the incident at Shahid Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall, the administration tried to provide protection to the accused. He remarked, “In the past 16 years, the autocratic rule of Hasina was sustained through a narrative and propaganda. Are you choosing the same path again?”

Sadik Kayem further stated that attempts are being made to frame the accused as a ‘Chhatra League leader,’ which he described as hypocritical behavior. He has also submitted a written complaint to the university administration regarding this matter.

It is worth noting that DU student Ali Hossen had threatened another candidate with ‘gang rape’ over challenging SM Farhad’s candidacy. To investigate this, two separate committees have been formed—one by the Proctor’s Office and another by the Chief Returning Officer’s office of DUCSU and Hall Councils.
