DU Hostel Student Abused: Director Razia Begum Arrested

Razia Begum, director of Swapnanibas Hostel, has been arrested by police for physically and mentally abusing a student of Shamsunnahar Hall at Dhaka University and confining her in a room.

According to sources, the student went to meet a guest when the hostel director demanded an extra BDT 1,000. When the student did not pay, she was beaten and locked in a room. When the victim lost consciousness, attempts to take her to the hospital were allegedly obstructed by the hostel director.

Upon learning of the incident, students from various halls of Dhaka University informed the police. A team from Sher-e-Bangla Police Station went to the scene, arrested Razia Begum, and took her to the station.

The duty officer at Sher-e-Bangla Police Station stated that the victim has filed a complaint alleging assault and harassment. A case is currently under process, and if others are found involved, legal action will be taken against them as well.
