Abu Sadik, vice-presidential (VP) candidate of the United Student Alliance, has demanded strict action against the real perpetrator instead of evading responsibility in the incident where a female student, who filed a writ in the High Court regarding the DU election, was threatened with gang rape.
He made this statement on Tuesday afternoon while speaking to journalists after campaigning in front of the Faculty of Business Studies at Dhaka University.
Abu Sadik said that although they immediately informed the administration about the incident, no effective action was taken. “If the administration had taken measures against cyberbullying from the beginning, this situation would not have arisen,” he remarked.
He alleged that the student who threatened the writ-filing female student, Ali Hossain, is associated with the Chhatra Dal. “Instead of punishing the real offender, political tactics are being used to shift the blame, allowing the culprits to go unpunished,” he added.
Clarifying his stance, VP candidate Sadik said, “Our female candidates are continuously facing cyberbullying, image manipulation, and verbal abuse. Even though we sought justice, the administration remained silent. Unless the real offender is given exemplary punishment, such incidents will continue to rise.”
He urged everyone to unite against the offenders, adding that the first promise of the United Student Alliance is to ensure a safe campus for women.
