The week-long tree planting and cleanliness program of Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP was inaugurated by BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy. The program began today, Tuesday, around noon at the area adjacent to the Balur field in East Maniknagar, Mugda, in the capital.

In his speech as the chief guest, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said that the digging of canals once had a noble purpose, but people could not understand it. Figuratively, he added, “The crocodile that was in the canal has been tormenting the people for 17 years and has now fled to Delhi. So, we need to bring clean water, not cut the canal for crocodiles.”

Around 12:45 PM, Gayeshwar joined the event and inaugurated the canal cleaning activities by holding a spade. He also participated in tree planting. Although he left shortly afterward, local leaders and activists continued the canal cleaning activities.

About 40 local leaders, activists, and city corporation sanitation workers participated in this initiative under the leadership of Mehedi Hasan, Secretary of the Balur Field Unit BNP. The program continued until around 2:30 PM.

Gayeshwar Chandra Roy also said that since BNP is currently not in power, people must unite to restore their voting rights before making demands. He alleged that voters’ rights are being taken away through conspiracies.

The event was presided over by Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP Convener Rafiqul Alam Majnu, and the program was conducted by Member Secretary Tanvir Ahmed Robin.
