Clash between Dhaka College and Ideal College students at Science Lab

On Thursday, a clash broke out between students of Dhaka College and Dhanmondi Ideal College in the Science Lab area of Dhaka. Due to chase and counter-chase and throwing of bricks, traffic on the main road from Mirpur to New Market was blocked for over an hour.

Eyewitnesses and police reported that the altercation began around 11:30 AM with a verbal dispute between students of the two colleges. It escalated into a chase, counter-chase, and brick-throwing. As tensions rose, both groups gathered at Science Lab junction and blocked the road.

During the clash, a bus belonging to Dhaka College was vandalized. Students also reportedly threw bricks at police. When fire was set on the road during the clash, panic spread in nearby areas.

After about one and a half hours, the police brought the situation under control. Tear gas shells were used, and students were dispersed and sent back to their respective campuses. Traffic normalized around 1:15 PM.

Md. Shawkat Ali, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, New Market, said that tear gas was used to restore law and order. The cause of the clash is under investigation.
