A major sensation has been created following the shooting death of a person named Khondaker Naim Ahmed Titon in the New Market area of the capital.

Police say the deceased Titon was long involved in criminal activities and the killing may have resulted from a conflict over dominance in the underworld.

On Tuesday (April 28) around 8 PM, unidentified assailants on motorcycles opened fire on Titon in the Neelkhet Bottola area. He was seriously injured on the spot and later declared dead at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Hospital sources said multiple bullet wounds were found on his body, including injuries to the head, suggesting a planned attack.

Witnesses said the attackers wore masks and caps. After the shooting, they fled the scene. When locals tried to chase them, blank shots were also fired to create panic.

Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police said Titon had multiple serious criminal cases against him and had recently been released from prison, though warrants were still pending.

Police sources believe conflicts between rival groups over control of the Old Dhaka crime network may be behind the killing. Revenge from earlier killings is also being investigated.

Police have launched operations to identify and arrest the attackers and are analyzing CCTV footage.

An officer said, “This appears to be a planned targeted killing, but all angles are being investigated.”

Law enforcement sources also said incidents of violence linked to underworld dominance are increasing in the capital, raising concerns over public safety.
