Jagannath University unit Chhatra Dal has carried out leaflet distribution and campaign activities in the campus with the message: “BNP is committed to implementing the July National Charter.” Leaders of the organization said the initiative was taken to counter confusion and propaganda regarding the July Charter and to deliver accurate information to students.
The program started in front of the Language Martyr Rafique Bhaban of the university. Later, leaflets were distributed among general students across different parts of the campus.
The leaflets explained BNP’s position on four questions related to the referendum. It was stated that BNP is committed to implementing all aspects of the July National Charter. However, BNP and some other political parties had objections to certain parts of question ‘B’ of the referendum as they were inconsistent with articles 18 and 19 of the charter.
The leaflet also stated that BNP supports a 100-member upper house but believes it should be based on proportional representation of parliamentary seats. It also opposes sending important constitutional matters, such as amendments, to an upper house that is not directly elected by the people.
It further highlighted BNP’s support for caretaker government provisions, reforms of constitutional institutions, judicial independence, strengthening local government, and increasing women’s representation in parliament.
Leaders participating in the program said that a section is deliberately spreading confusion about the July National Charter. They are conducting awareness campaigns among students to counter this.
Jagannath University Chhatra Dal convener Mehedi Hasan Himel said, “The July National Charter is not just a political document; it is a commitment to rebuilding democracy and creating a discrimination-free state. BNP is committed to implementing it according to public expectations.”
Member Secretary Shamsul Arefin said, “A new governance system must be built ensuring participation and opinions of the youth. The July National Charter will play an important role in democracy, freedom of expression, and building a student-friendly state.”
