BNP Acting Secretary General and Adviser to the Prime Minister Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said that conspirators have repeatedly attempted to destroy religious harmony in the country. Despite various conspiracies, he said, the bonds of mutual harmony and goodwill among the people will remain intact.

Rizvi made the remarks on Tuesday (September 8) after paying tribute at the graves of former president Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Khaleda Zia at Zia Udyan in the capital. He laid flowers at the graves along with members of the Hindu, Buddhist and Christian Welfare Trusts.

Rizvi said various trusts have been established to oversee the welfare and relevant issues of different religious communities. He also highlighted the BNP’s position on ensuring the rights and dignity of people belonging to all religions and communities in the country.

He said that, as a political party, the BNP believes in ensuring equal space for people of all faiths. According to him, this principle has been given importance since the time of former president Ziaur Rahman.

The BNP leader further said that various attempts have been made at different times to undermine religious harmony in the country. However, such efforts will not be able to destroy the tradition of mutual relations and peaceful coexistence among the people of Bangladesh, he said.

He expressed hope that the longstanding relationship of goodwill and harmony among people of different religions and communities in Bangladesh will remain intact in the future as well.

Members of the Hindu, Buddhist and Christian Welfare Trusts and relevant leaders and activists were present at the tribute-paying ceremony.
