The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has raised objections to four ordinances issued during the caretaker government, concerning enforced disappearance prevention, the National Human Rights Commission, and judiciary-related matters. Members were given specific instructions during the BNP parliamentary party meeting.
The meeting, held Tuesday afternoon at the National Parliament building, was presided over by party chairman and parliamentary leader Tarique Rahman. Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed and Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman also spoke during the meeting.
It was discussed that most ordinances issued by the caretaker government could be passed as bills in Parliament. However, the party has a differing opinion on four key ordinances—related to disappearance prevention, National Human Rights Commission, and judiciary matters.
Party leaders believe that passing these ordinances without amendments could weaken the executive branch’s effectiveness and control. Hence, they emphasized the need for further review.
During the parliamentary party meeting, members were instructed not to directly oppose the ordinances but to adopt a stance of ‘further verification before making a decision.’ Discussions about ongoing public criticism of these ordinances also took place.
According to parliamentary party sources, formal positions on these four bills will be announced by BNP soon. Additionally, all party MPs have been instructed to attend Parliament on Friday, with exceptions only for urgent reasons.
The parliamentary session is scheduled to resume after Friday prayers, and may continue late into the night if necessary.
