Mannan Bhuiya (58), BNP’s Agriculture Affairs Secretary of Ward No. 7, Majidpur Union, Titash Upazila, Comilla, was arrested with weapons by a joint force of the army and police. He was detained on Friday (29 November) at 10:00 pm from his residence in West Para, Sahapur village.

Titash police stated that based on secret information, a joint force conducted a raid at the house. During the operation, a locally-made pipe gun, five lead cartridges, two machetes, an old sword, a long dagger hidden on the roof of the outside bathroom, and B266,000 in cash were recovered from the house.

Investigation officer SI Mahmudul Haque said the recovered weapons and materials are initially believed to be illegal, and the case is under further investigation.

However, Mannan Bhuiya’s wife, Hajera Khatun, alleged, “There has been a long-standing dispute with some Awami League supporters in our village. Out of vengeance, my husband was framed by planting weapons on our bathroom roof. We demand justice.”

A regular case has been filed at Titash police station, and Mannan Bhuiya was sent to jail through the court on Saturday.
