A Bangladeshi youth named Alamgir Hossain (35) was injured by gunfire from the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at the Bhomra border in Satkhira. The incident took place early Monday morning (4 August) at the Lahmidari border area of Satkhira Sadar Upazila.
The injured, Alamgir Hossain, is the son of the late Sheikh Saeed Uddin from Lahmidari village in Satkhira Sadar. He is currently receiving treatment at Satkhira Sadar Hospital.
Alamgir’s nephew, Belal Hossain, stated that Alamgir went to feed fish at his own fishpond early in the morning. At that time, some people from India were attempting to cross the border into Bangladesh. When the BSF fired at them, Alamgir, who was nearby, was hit by stray bullets. The bullets struck his right side neck, eye, and head.
Alamgir was immediately admitted to Satkhira Sadar Hospital. Dr. ABM Aktar Maruf from the emergency department said that Alamgir has multiple gunshot wounds but after initial treatment, he is currently out of danger.
Bhomra BGB Camp Commander Mohammad Zahid Uddin said Alamgir had illegally gone to India on 30 July and was staying at a relative’s house. On Monday morning, while returning and crossing the border, he was injured by the BSF firing.
