Litton Das continued his impressive batting performance in the second innings of the Abu Dhabi Test. After scoring a half-century in the first innings, the Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter reached another fifty in the second innings and appeared poised to build an even bigger score. His composed batting helped Bangladesh extend its lead over the opposition.
At lunch on the fourth day, Bangladesh had reached 337 for six, with an overall lead of 443 runs.
Litton resumed batting on Monday (October 12) with five runs to his name from the previous day. He then scored quickly to reach the milestone of 9,000 runs in international cricket, becoming the fifth Bangladeshi batter to achieve the feat. Mushfiqur Rahim, Tamim Iqbal, Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah had previously reached the milestone.
Although Litton survived two chances during his innings, he subsequently batted with considerable composure. He reached his half-century with the help of seven boundaries. It was his 22nd half-century in Test cricket. At the lunch break, he remained unbeaten on 81 and was closing in on a century.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz provided valuable support at the other end. He also batted patiently and helped increase Bangladesh’s total. Miraz had scored 38 runs before the lunch break.
After 98 overs, Bangladesh stood at 337 for six. With the two batters maintaining an unbroken partnership, the team continued to move towards a substantial lead.
Supporters are now watching to see whether Litton can complete his century and how much further Bangladesh can extend its advantage.
