Bangladesh’s dominance in the Darwin Test showed no signs of slowing down. After controlling the match during the first two days, the Tigers maintained their grip on the third day as well. Bangladesh bowled Australia out for 198 runs in the first innings and then scored 426 runs themselves, giving the visitors a massive first-innings lead of 228 runs.

After falling significantly behind, Australia came out to bat in their second innings and finished the day on 167 for four. As a result, the hosts were still 67 runs behind Bangladesh at the end of the third day.

Australia made a shaky start to their second innings. Bangladesh pacer Hasan Mahmud dismissed both Australian openers within the team total of 37 runs. Travis Head was dismissed for 17 before Jack Weatherland was sent back to the pavilion without scoring.

After the initial setback, Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne formed a partnership and tried to stabilize the innings. However, Taijul Islam broke the partnership when Australia reached 73. Labuschagne was dismissed for 31 off 59 balls.

Cameron Green then joined Smith at the crease. The two added 49 runs together and helped stabilize Australia’s innings. Bangladesh eventually managed to break this partnership as well. Mehidy Hasan Miraz dismissed Smith for 44.

After Smith’s dismissal, Green was joined by Alex Carey, and the pair saw Australia through the remainder of the day. At the end of play, Carey was unbeaten on 19 from 50 balls, while Green remained not out on 43 from 86 balls. Australia’s fightback on the fourth day will begin with this partnership.

Earlier, Bangladesh’s pacers produced an excellent bowling performance to dismiss Australia for just 198 runs in their first innings. In reply, Tanzid Hasan Tamim made a major contribution with the bat. Powered by his century, Bangladesh posted a total of 426 runs in their first innings.

As a result, Bangladesh secured a huge 228-run lead over Australia. The Tigers strengthened their position even further by taking four Australian wickets in the second innings. Their main challenge on the fourth day will now be to dismiss Australia quickly and set the hosts a big target.
