BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed profound concern over the attack on the National Citizens' Party (NCP)'s pre-announced 'March to Gopalganj' program in Gopalganj. He conveyed his worries in a statement sent to the media today, Wednesday.
In the statement, the BNP Secretary General said, "After the fall of the Awami autocratic ruling party due to the student-people's movement, miscreants are once again engaged in nefarious attempts to create instability and gain advantage through anarchy in the country." He further noted, "Today's barbaric attack on the NCP's pre-announced program in Gopalganj, including cocktail explosions, arson attacks on vehicles of the UNO and law enforcement agencies, and injuring police personnel, is a clear manifestation of these nefarious activities."
Mirza Fakhrul believes that due to the extreme deterioration of the law and order situation, Awami loyalists are now "raising their heads, biting hard to put the interim government in a difficult position and gain advantage, thereby creating anarchy in the country." He emphasized, "There is no alternative but to suppress these miscreants with a firm hand."
The BNP Secretary General further stated, "To establish democracy and people's voting rights, and to prevent the rise of fascism in the country again, people from all walks of life, irrespective of party or opinion, must remain united to protect the lives and property of the country's citizens." He warned that any deviation from this path would once again threaten the country's independence and sovereignty.
In the statement, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir strongly called for the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the assailants responsible for the attack on the NCP's pre-announced program in Gopalganj. He also wished a swift recovery for the injured police personnel.
