On Wednesday evening, after an election rally of Jamaat-e-Islami at Sheikh-er Char Bus Stand in Meherpara Union, Narsingdi Sadar, an attack occurred, injuring at least 30 people. Many were treated at Narsingdi Sadar Hospital.

Farida Gulshanara Kabir, the RMO at the hospital, reported that 14 injured were admitted, seven of whom were sent to Dhaka after initial treatment.

Jamaat’s district secretary and Narsingdi-2 candidate Amjad Hossain claimed the attack involved leaders and activists of the local Jubo Dal and Tanti Party. He demanded immediate arrest of the attackers.

He further alleged that some BNP leaders and activists had disrupted the rally from the beginning and verbally abused him during the event. While locals temporarily calmed the situation, attackers reportedly used weapons on the way back. Three party workers remain missing.

Accused include Meherpara Union Tanti Party President Bakhtiar Hossain and Jubo Dal leader Iftikhar Alam. Meherpara Union BNP President Abdur Rashid Mia denied the allegations and claimed five of their members were seriously injured in a counterattack.

Narsingdi Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Sujan Chandra Sarkar stated that the police have brought the situation under control and are investigating the incident. Written complaints will be acted upon legally.
