Former Sylhet City Mayor and BNP candidate for Sylhet-4, Ariful Haque Chowdhury, campaigned for BNP candidate Khondakar Abdul Muktaider in Sylhet-1 (Metropolitan & Sadar). He was accompanied by former city councillors and BNP leaders from various levels.
On Monday (2 February) around 12:15 PM, the campaign began in the Amberkhana area with leaflet distribution supporting the "Dhaner Shish" symbol. Later, under Ariful Haque Chowdhury’s leadership, they conducted a one-hour long public campaign covering Durgaghat, Chowhattas, and nearby areas.
Party sources stated that both Muktaider and Chowdhury are advisors to the BNP chairperson and hold significant influence in Sylhet city politics. Muktaider was initially a potential nominee for Sylhet-1 but was ultimately selected by BNP, while Chowdhury was nominated for Sylhet-4. The campaign demonstrated party unity.
Several BNP city leaders said that due to Chowdhury’s long service as an elected representative, he has close ties with city residents. His direct involvement in the campaign is expected to positively influence voters.
During leaflet distribution, both candidates raised their hands in acknowledgment of public greetings. After the campaign, Chowdhury spoke to journalists, highlighting his past service as city mayor and his commitment to development. Muktaider expressed gratitude to Chowdhury and former councillors for their support, emphasizing that party unity and collective effort will ensure victory in Sylhet-1.
