In Dhanbari Upazila of Tangail, the body of a missing child named Maria (7) was recovered from a bag after five days, creating shock in the area.

On Sunday (1 February) morning, the child’s body was recovered from an abandoned house in Baripara village of Jadunathpur Union. The deceased Maria was the daughter of Uzzal Hossain from Baripara and a third-grade student.

The family reported that Maria went missing on Monday, 26 January, near their home. Despite announcements and searches by relatives and locals, no trace of her was found. Fire Service divers even searched the nearby Banshai River, but without success. Eventually, her frustrated father filed a general diary (GD) at Dhanbari Police Station on Friday.

On Sunday morning, after Fajr prayers, local residents detected a foul smell coming from an abandoned house belonging to Nannu Mia by the roadside. Inside, they found Maria’s body in a steel box, wrapped in a bag. Police quickly recovered the body after being informed.

Locals suspect a heinous crime and claim that criminals may have murdered her to cover up the incident. Following the recovery, two suspects have been taken into police custody.

Dhanbari Police OC Nurus Salam Siddique said that Maria’s father filed a case as the complainant. The suspects are being interrogated, and the autopsy report will provide clarity on the cause of death and those responsible.
