Due to increasing measles outbreaks nationwide, a national measles-rubella vaccination campaign is being launched to protect children. In this regard, the health department provided details of overall preparations in a press conference in Faridpur.

On Saturday (April 18) at 11:00 AM, the press conference was held at the district civil surgeon office auditorium organized by the district civil surgeon office.

Civil Surgeon Dr. Mahmudul Hasan said the campaign will run nationwide from April 20 to May 10. Under this program, all children aged 6 months to under 5 years will receive a free single dose of measles-rubella vaccine.

He further said that even if children have already received routine vaccination, all children within this age group will be given an additional dose to strengthen immunity. However, at least a 28-day gap between doses must be maintained.

According to district health department sources, a total of 239,755 children in Faridpur are targeted for vaccination. For this purpose, 2,693 vaccination centers have been set up across 9 upazilas, 79 unions, 237 wards, and 27 municipal wards. Vaccination will be provided daily from 8 AM to 4 PM.

The centers include permanent EPI centers as well as a large number of temporary centers in educational institutions to ensure easy access for children.

The health department said extensive awareness campaigns have already been conducted. Efforts have been made through local representatives, religious leaders, and various social organizations to raise public awareness.

At the press conference, Dr. Mahmudul Hasan said, “With everyone’s cooperation, this campaign can be made successful. Parents must come forward to vaccinate their children and avoid misinformation.”
