Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested Md. Shah Paran (28), the mastermind behind the filming and dissemination of a video depicting the torture of a woman in Muradnagar, Comilla, as well as the instigator and planner of mob creation. A team from RAB-11, CPC-2, apprehended him from the Kabila Bazar area of Burichang Thana in Comilla district. RAB confirmed this information in a statement released on Friday.
According to RAB, this brutal incident stemmed from pre-existing enmity. The arrested Shah Paran is the younger brother of Fajr Ali, who is an accused in the rape case filed regarding this incident. RAB stated that Shah Paran was the main perpetrator behind recording the torture video and spreading it on social media. Shah Paran had been in hiding since the incident. During his arrest, important information, including videos and photos, was recovered from him.
RAB's account details that two months prior, a verbal altercation and physical fight occurred between Fajr Ali and Shah Paran over a family dispute. Subsequently, in a village arbitration, the elder brother Fajr Ali slapped his younger brother Shah Paran. Seeking revenge for this humiliation, Shah Paran had been looking for an opportunity ever since.
Meanwhile, the mother of the tortured woman had borrowed BDT 50,000 from Fajr Ali at interest. On the night of the incident, when the woman's parents went to a local fair, Fajr Ali entered her house under the pretext of collecting the interest payment.
RAB further reported that, according to a pre-planned scheme, Shah Paran, Abul Kalam, Anik, Arif, Sumon, Ramjan, along with 8 to 10 others, broke down the door and entered the woman's house. They then physically assaulted her and recorded the obscene video. This video was later circulated on social media, sparking widespread condemnation across the country.
