Two Bangladeshis have been killed after being shot by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) in the Kasba border area of Brahmanbaria. The incident took place late Friday night in the Dhajanagar–Pathariadwar border area. One of the deceased has been identified, while the identity of the other is still unknown.

The deceased Md. Mursalin was a resident of Dhajanagar village in Kasba upazila. He was a college student, according to the administration.

In a press release on Saturday morning, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) said that preliminary information suggests several Bangladeshi smugglers entered Indian territory with the help of local collaborators. They were returning with goods when they encountered a BSF patrol team.

BGB claimed that during this time, a scuffle took place between BSF members and the Bangladeshis, after which gunshots were fired. The two were seriously injured by pellets and later died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in India.

After the incident, the 60 BGB Battalion contacted the BSF. Preparations are underway for a flag meeting to repatriate the bodies.

Lieutenant Colonel SM Shariful Islam, commander of the 60 BGB Battalion, said that the BSF has confirmed the deaths of two Bangladeshis. They informed that the bodies will be handed over after post-mortem through official procedures.

Meanwhile, Md. Shamiul Islam said that the deceased Mursalin was a college student. Efforts are ongoing to identify the other deceased person.

Following the incident, tension has prevailed in the border area, and concern has spread among local residents. BGB has started the process of sending a protest note to BSF regarding the incident.
