Five top leaders of the National Citizens Party (NCP) have been issued show-cause notices for making a personal visit to Cox’s Bazar without informing the party’s political council. They have been asked to appear in person within 24 hours and submit a written explanation.

On Wednesday (August 6), separate letters signed by NCP Joint Secretary (Office) Saleh Uddin Sifat were sent to the five leaders, summoning them. The notice stated that “during the first anniversary of the July uprising and important national days, central party members went on a personal visit to Cox’s Bazar without prior permission or information.”

The leaders have been directed to report in person within 24 hours to Convener Md. Nahid Islam and Secretary Akhtar Hossain to explain the reasons and circumstances behind this decision.

This incident has sparked intense discussion and criticism within political circles. Notably, instead of joining the large public gathering in Dhaka on the first anniversary of the July declaration, these five senior NCP leaders traveled to Cox’s Bazar. Rumors have emerged that they held a secret meeting there with a former foreign ambassador.

The summoned leaders include NCP’s Chief Organizer (South) Hasnat Abdullah, Chief Organizer (North) Sarjis Alam, Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, Joint Secretary Dr. Tasnim Zara, and Zara’s husband Khaled Saifullah. Additionally, Sarjis Alam’s wife was also present during the Cox’s Bazar visit.

They have been summoned for violating party rules and regulations. Now it remains to be seen how these leaders respond regarding the matter.
