Wife Stabbed to Death in Gazipur Over Drug Money Dispute, Husband Arrested

RAB has arrested Chayedul Islam (40) for allegedly stabbing his wife Nasima Akter (27), a garment worker, to death following a dispute over money demanded for drugs in Sreepur of Gazipur.

The tragic incident took place in front of the couple’s two young children, making the incident even more heartbreaking.

RAB-1 said in a statement on Tuesday (July 14) that the accused was arrested within 24 hours of the murder. The incident occurred early Monday (July 13) in Sreepur Municipality area.

According to RAB, the victim Nasima worked at a local garment factory. After receiving her salary, her husband Chayedul allegedly demanded Tk 3,000 from her. It was alleged that he wanted the money to purchase drugs.

When Nasima refused to give him the money, an argument broke out between the couple. At one stage, Chayedul became violent and stabbed his wife repeatedly with a sharp weapon.

Nasima suffered critical injuries and died at the scene. At that time, their eight-year-old daughter and five-year-old son witnessed the entire incident.

After committing the murder, the accused attempted to flee. RAB-1 conducted an operation and arrested him. Later, he was handed over to Sreepur Police Station for further legal action.

Sreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shaheenur Alam said that the arrested Chayedul Islam gave a confessional statement under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code before the court. The investigation and further legal proceedings are ongoing.

Local residents said that family disputes and drug addiction destroyed a family within moments. Neighbours expressed concern over the future of the two children who lost their mother.

Law enforcement officials hope that a fair investigation and quick judicial process will bring justice in the case.
