Wife detained on suspicion of murdering husband in Shariatpur

Police have arrested a woman in Shariatpur Sadar upazila on charges of killing her husband and dismembering the body and scattering the parts in different locations. The incident has created widespread shock in the area.

Police said the deceased, Jia Sardar, was a Malaysia expatriate. About eight years ago, he married Asma Akhtar through a mobile phone relationship. It was a second marriage for both of them. They had been living in rented houses in different areas of Shariatpur town.

Local sources said that marital disputes between the couple had recently intensified. It is alleged that on the night of May 12, during an argument, Asma Akhtar struck her husband Jia Sardar on the head. He was seriously injured and died.

It is alleged that after the incident, the body was dismembered to conceal the crime. The body parts were reportedly stored in a drum and refrigerator for several days. On Friday night, while attempting to dispose of the body parts in different places, locals became suspicious.

Residents said that when something meat-like was being stored in a refrigerator in a house, a foul smell spread. Suspicion grew among locals, who then called the emergency service 999. Police later arrived at the scene and detained the accused woman.

During interrogation, Asma Akhtar reportedly confessed to the killing, according to law enforcement. Based on her information, dismembered parts of the body were recovered from different areas of Shariatpur municipality and the banks of the Padma River.

Relatives of the deceased demanded that the murder was the result of family disputes and called for a proper investigation and exemplary punishment.

Shah Alam said that an attempt was made to conceal the body after the murder. Parts have been recovered from different locations and the entire incident is being investigated.

Police said legal proceedings are ongoing and the motive behind the murder is being investigated.
