At a roadside rally held in Burichang of Comilla, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said that the government is gradually implementing the promises made to the people and that the demand for the formation of a Comilla Division will also be implemented if it turns into a public aspiration.
Speaking at a roadside rally held on Saturday (May 16) afternoon in Lakshmipur area of Burichang upazila, he said that BNP has always worked for the welfare of the people. He added that the commitments made before the election are being implemented step by step. He also urged party leaders, activists, and the general public to remain patient and support the government.
The Prime Minister said that after coming to power, the government has prioritized the interests of farmers. He claimed that immediately after assuming responsibility, agricultural loans of 1.2 million farmers were waived, freeing a large number of farmers from debt pressure.
Highlighting the importance of Comilla as an agriculture-based region, he said that a large amount of agricultural products from this region are supplied to different parts of the country. Referring to long-standing local demands, he assured that an agricultural university will be established in Comilla and said he would soon discuss the matter with the Education Minister.
Criticizing the previous government, he said that people in the country had long suffered oppression and corruption. He also said that money laundering and looting had put pressure on the country’s economy. However, he assured that the government will continue working to fulfill public expectations.
He further said that the people are BNP’s greatest strength and called on everyone to unite for national development and welfare.
The meeting was chaired by Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher Sumon. Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock Minister Haji Amin Ur Rashid Yasin, along with local BNP leaders and allied organization leaders, also spoke at the event.
