The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) conducted an operation in the border area of Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, and recovered a significant cache of weapons and ammunition. The operation took place on Tuesday (26 August) afternoon in the Khorer Island area of Hnila Union.
According to the BGB, while patrolling the river based on a confidential tip-off, several suspicious individuals were spotted. Upon noticing the presence of BGB personnel, they fired a few rounds and fled rapidly toward Myanmar. A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of three modern rifles, one foreign-made weapon, eight magazines, and over 500 rounds of ammunition.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Jasim Uddin, commander of the 64 BGB, stated that the force remains on high alert to ensure border security. He emphasized that under no circumstances will weapons, drugs, or smuggled goods be allowed to enter Bangladesh. The recovered weapons are believed to have been stockpiled for terrorist or sabotage purposes.
He further added that intelligence efforts are being intensified to identify those involved. The seized arms and ammunition will be handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station for legal processing.
Local residents expressed relief over the BGB’s regular operations in the border area, hoping that such strict measures will help prevent the future flow of illegal weapons and drugs.
