A video of Nizam Uddin, Joint Coordinator of the National Citizens Party (NCP) in Chattogram city, demanding extortion has gone viral on social media. In the video, Nizam Uddin is heard demanding five lakh taka to stop an ongoing movement in the port area.
After the video went viral, the NCP Chattogram Metropolitan Committee issued a show cause notice to him. On Monday afternoon, the notice signed by the city committee’s Joint Coordinator (Office), Arif Moinuddin, was sent to Nizam Uddin. He has been asked to submit a written explanation within 24 hours regarding the violation of party discipline.
Nizam Uddin told “These are old videos. The video is being deliberately circulated to politically corner me.” He added that the video was published by a person named Aftab, who will come live and explain the matter in detail. Nizam also confirmed that he has received the party’s show cause notice and will submit a proper explanation soon.
Earlier, on July 5, a woman filed a complaint to the Chattogram Police Commissioner accusing Nizam Uddin of extortion. The complaint stated that after she refused to pay two crore taka, Nizam Uddin involved her husband in a false case. At that time, Nizam was the Secretary of the Chattogram city branch of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. Following the allegation, his position was suspended but was later reinstated.
