Biru Molla was a resident of Mollapara village in Kamalpur and the son of the late Abul Molla. Locally, he was known as an active BNP leader.
According to the family, the killing is related to a dispute over family property. The deceased's relatives alleged that his cousin Jahurul Molla, son of the late Islam Molla from the same area, opened fire.
The deceased’s son, Rajib Molla, said that Jahurul Molla had long been forcibly occupying their family property. On Tuesday night, he dug up land in the Char area and sold the soil. On Wednesday morning, upon learning about this, he and his father went to Jahurul Molla’s house to protest. Angered, Jahurul Molla opened fire with an illegal firearm, killing Biru Molla on the spot.
After the incident, tension spread in the area. The police arrived at the scene to bring the situation under control.
OC of Ishwardi Police Station, Mominuzzaman, said additional police have been deployed after the news of the BNP leader being shot dead. The body has been sent to Pabna General Hospital morgue for autopsy. Legal action will be taken if a written complaint is filed.
