Two motorcyclists were killed after a freight train struck their motorcycle while they were crossing a railway crossing in the Pubail area of Gazipur Metropolitan City.

The accident occurred around 9:00 pm on Thursday (March 5) at the railway crossing adjacent to Pubail Railway Station.

The deceased were identified as Sajib Hossain (40), son of Ashraf Hossain of Mridha Bari in Nayanipara under Ward No. 41 of Pubail Police Station, and Habibur Rahman Bappi Sarkar (35), son of Badda Sarkar of Sathanipara in the same area.

According to locals, Sajib and Bappi were attempting to cross the railway line on a motorcycle when a freight train traveling from Dhaka toward Chattogram arrived at the crossing. The train hit the motorcycle with great force, leaving both riders critically injured.

Locals quickly rescued them and took them to Karmatola Christian Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

Musa, the station master of Pubail Railway Station, said the bodies of the deceased have been handed over to their families and the matter has been reported to the railway police.

Following the incident, the gatekeeper of the railway crossing, Monir, temporarily left the scene. Later he said the gate had been lowered before the train arrived and warning whistles were blown. However, the motorcyclists tried to cross beside the gate, which led to the accident.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pubail Police Station Atikur Rahman said police were sent to the scene and the railway police were informed. Necessary investigation and legal steps will be taken regarding the incident.
