Two people were killed and at least three others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a microbus in Gournadi upazila of Barishal. The accident occurred on Friday (March 6) morning in the Kasba area of the Dhaka–Barishal highway.
According to police, a bus belonging to Tekerhat Paribahan traveling from Barishal to Dhaka collided with a microbus coming from the opposite direction. The collision was so severe that two people, including the microbus driver, died on the spot. Three other passengers were seriously injured.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gournadi Highway Police Station Shamim Sheikh said police rushed to the scene after receiving news of the accident and rescued the injured before sending them to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal.
He added that both the bus and the microbus involved in the accident have been seized. However, the bus driver fled the scene.
The OC said the cause of the accident is being investigated and necessary legal action will be taken.
Meanwhile, traffic on the Dhaka–Barishal highway remained suspended for some time after the accident but later returned to normal and vehicles resumed movement.
