Authorities recovered 750 liters of diesel illegally stored in a rooftop water tank of a house in Charjabbar Union, Subarnachar Upazila, Noakhali. The person involved was fined.
On Thursday (April 2) night, the operation was conducted based on a secret tip-off by Subarnachar Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Akib Osman.
During the operation, evidence was found that a large quantity of diesel had been stored in the water tank of Basir Sareng, also known as Basu Sereng’s house. Storing flammable substances in a tank normally used for water had caused concern in the area.
Locals alleged that fuel had been secretly kept in that tank for several days. Once the matter became public, panic spread due to the risk of having such flammable stock in a populated area. It is initially believed that the fuel was stored for illegal sale.
The Upazila administration confiscated the diesel and sold it immediately at depot prices to a licensed dealer at Char Hasan Bhuiya Hat Bazar. Under the Petroleum Act, 2016, Basu Sereng was fined BDT 10,000 for illegally storing flammable substances, which was collected on the spot.
