The spread of measles in the country has once again reached an alarming level. In the last 24 hours, two more people have died with measles-like symptoms, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). In the same period, 1,069 new cases showing measles symptoms have been identified.
The information was published in the regular health bulletin of the DGHS on Saturday (May 16).
According to the DGHS, the two latest deaths occurred in the Sylhet division due to measles-like symptoms. With this, the total death toll since March 15 has risen to 453.
In the same period, 108 new confirmed measles cases were recorded, while 961 people showed symptoms. In total, 56,572 people have shown measles-like symptoms since March 15, of whom 7,524 cases have been confirmed.
The report also states that 41,028 patients were admitted to hospitals during this period. Among them, 36,645 have recovered and returned home.
Health experts say that due to the continuous increase in infections, vaccination and awareness activities need to be strengthened urgently to control the situation.
