Two brothers killed, one injured in truck accident in Nilphamari

Two brothers were killed after being run over by a stone-laden truck in Nilphamari. Another person was seriously injured in the same incident. The accident took place late Tuesday night (April 14) in the Jamtali area of East Sutipara on the Nilphamari-Saidpur highway.

The deceased were identified as Md. Shihab Hossain (19) and his younger brother Md. Soyad (6), sons of the late Tarikul Islam Babu from West Kuchiar Mor area of Sadar upazila.

According to locals and police, around midnight, three people were crossing the road when a speeding truck ran over them from behind. The two brothers died on the spot. The truck driver fled immediately after the accident.

Locals rescued the injured person and sent him to a nearby hospital. His condition is reported to be critical.

OC of Nilphamari Sadar Police Station, Zillur Rahman, said identifying the truck has been difficult as the incident occurred at night. However, police are investigating and trying to identify those responsible.

The incident has cast a shadow of grief in the area, and locals are demanding that the driver be brought to justice quickly.
