Three-time former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia passed away early Tuesday morning (December 30). Her death has brought a wave of mourning across the country. In light of this grief, two scheduled matches of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) have been postponed.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced in a statement that, to honor the memory of the late former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, the matches between Sylhet Titans vs. Chattogram Royals and Dhaka Capitals vs. Rangpur Riders scheduled for today have been canceled. These postponed matches will be held later according to a new schedule, and details will be announced in due course.

BCB stated that during this national mourning period, the cricket community also expresses solidarity with the nation. Respecting social and state sentiments during important national moments was the main reason behind this decision.

It is noted that Khaleda Zia had been receiving treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka since November 23. She had been in the ICU for a long time, and her condition had been critical. Despite receiving maximum treatment, she could not recover.

As Bangladesh’s first female Prime Minister and three-time head of government, Khaleda Zia’s death has evoked deep sorrow among people across all political and social spheres.
