Two Arrested in Public Stabbing Murder in Madaripur

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested two individuals in connection with the public stabbing murder of 25-year-old Rakib Madbar, a follower of the Hindu faith, who was attacked with a Chinese machete. The arrests were made on Friday (19 September) evening from Abdullahpur Bus Stand area under South Keraniganj Police Station in Dhaka and Khanpur area under Narayanganj Sadar Police Station.

The information was disclosed in a press release on Saturday (20 September) signed by RAB-8 Madaripur Camp Company Commander Mir Monir Hossain. The arrested suspects are Nur Afzal alias Rana Sardar (32), son of Khalek Sardar from Purbo Kakoir (Char Shyamae) village, Shibchar Upazila, and Siam Sardar (22), son of Harun Sardar from Keranibat village, Shibchar Upazila.

The deceased, Rakib, was the son of Nasir Madbar of Char Shyamail village in Shiruail Union, Shibchar Upazila. He was a final-year honors student in the Political Science Department at Government Barhamganj College and served as the co-vice president of the college branch of the banned Chhatra League.

According to the press release, on the night of 14 September, Rakib was standing alone in front of the UCB Bank ATM booth in Shibchar municipal market when he was attacked with a Chinese machete over dominance issues and past enmity. He was taken to the Upazila Health Complex and later to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

RAB stated that, considering the seriousness of the case, the suspects were apprehended based on secret intelligence and handed over to Shibchar Police Station. The victim’s family alleges that some influential local individuals may be involved in the incident.
