U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he is withdrawing his long-standing support for Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene. On Friday night, he posted on his social media platform Truth Social, calling Greene “deranged” and accusing her of “leaning too far left.”
Trump wrote in his post: “I am withdrawing my support and endorsement of Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene.”
He also claimed that Greene “spends her time making allegations” despite his administration achieving “historic successes.”
Greene had been one of Trump’s strongest supporters, even appearing at the 2024 State of the Union wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat.
However, in recent months, Greene began opposing various positions of the Trump administration, particularly criticizing the administration’s handling of the federal government shutdown, health insurance subsidy cuts, and lack of plans for affected citizens.
The biggest conflict arose over Greene’s demand for full disclosure of Jeffrey Epstein-related files. Greene has consistently called for full transparency, which reportedly made Trump uncomfortable.
Following Trump’s announcement, Greene said on social media that she had sent Trump a message related to Epstein, which allegedly angered him. Greene claimed, “Trump is so desperate to stop the release of the Epstein files that he wants to make an example of me to scare other Republicans.”
She added, “If he spent this energy solving the problems of ordinary Americans, the country would be much better off.”
On Wednesday, U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson announced that a vote on the release of all Epstein-related documents would take place next week. A discharge petition forcing the vote was signed by Greene and three other Republicans.
If passed, the bill would require the release of Epstein’s flight logs and travel records, a list of persons mentioned or investigated, and documents related to investigations involving Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.
This issue has been at the center of public debate for a long time. Recently released emails from Democrats allege that Trump spent “hours upon hours” with a victim at Epstein’s residence. The White House dismissed this claim as “baseless,” and Trump also insisted that being listed on the “Epstein list” is a “Democrat conspiracy.”
In his post withdrawing support, Trump said Greene “cries because I don’t take her calls. I am busy with leaders of 200 countries, 53 senators, hundreds of Congress members, and the whole administration. How can I take calls from a ‘deranged’ person every day?” He added that Georgia Republican leaders are also “frustrated” with Greene’s behavior and will fully support any strong candidate in the upcoming midterm elections.
