More Than 2,000 New Millionaire Bank Accounts Added in Three Months; Only 15 Depositors Hold Over Tk 500 Million

Bangladesh Bank has released new statistics highlighting changes in the country's high-value bank deposits.

According to the latest data, the number of bank accounts holding deposits of Tk 10 million (1 crore) or more increased significantly by the end of March 2026.

However, the number of customers with deposits exceeding Tk 500 million (50 crore) remains extremely limited.

The central bank's latest report shows that the number of bank accounts containing Tk 10 million or more reached 40,645 by the end of March 2026.

This represents an increase of 2,209 accounts in just three months.

At the end of December 2025, there were 38,436 such accounts.

Meanwhile, the number of customers with deposits exceeding Tk 500 million stood at 15 at the end of March.

During the same period last year, the figure was 22.

However, it had fallen to 13 by the end of December 2025 before increasing by two during the first quarter of 2026 to reach the current total of 15.

Analysts say fluctuations in the number of ultra-high-value depositors may result from several factors, including business investments, fund transfers, wealth management strategies, and tax-related financial planning.

At the same time, the continued rise in accounts holding more than Tk 10 million suggests that high-value savings remain on an upward trend within Bangladesh's banking sector.

Experts note that this growth may reflect not only the addition of new wealthy depositors but also larger savings balances among existing account holders and interest earnings accumulated over time.

The latest Bangladesh Bank statistics have renewed discussions about wealth distribution, deposit patterns, and the concentration of high-value savings within the country's banking system.
