The government has prepared all arrangements for the state funeral and burial of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
According to official sources, the janaza (funeral prayer) will be held on Wednesday at 2 PM near the National Parliament premises and Manik Mia Avenue in Dhaka, following the Zuhr prayer.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that Mufti Abdul Malek, the khateeb of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, will lead the janaza. He made the announcement after a briefing following a BNP Standing Committee meeting chaired by acting party chairman Tarique Rahman.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam stated, “Begum Khaleda Zia dedicated her life to institutionalizing democracy. Her death is an irreplaceable loss, and bearing this grief is extremely difficult. We want to transform this sorrow into strength. After the janaza, she will be buried beside the nation’s revered leader Ziaur Rahman.”
BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan added that he will oversee the funeral arrangements. Party officials have urged members to avoid any disorderly conduct during the mourning period.
