In Kaliakair of Gazipur, internal conflicts within the BNP have reached a boiling point. Amid this tension, local leaders and activists of the upazila unit of Chhatra Dal staged a unique form of protest. In response to the alleged entry of former Awami League members into the BNP’s party office, they poured one maund (approximately 37 kg) of milk to "wash" and purify the entire office.

The incident took place around 9:30 PM on Wednesday night at the BNP’s upazila office in the Kaliakair Bazar area. A video of the event went viral on social media Thursday morning, sparking wide discussion in political circles.

The protest was led by Chhatra Dal joint convener Touhidul Islam. First, a bucket containing the liquid milk was brought in. Then, several party activists used mugs to pour and wash parts of the office floor and door.

Touhidul Islam said, “By allowing pro-Awami League individuals to enter our party office, our political image has been tarnished. This office is not just a space; it symbolizes our ideology. That’s why, as a symbolic gesture, we purified it with milk.”

BNP district member-secretary Chowdhury Ishraq Ahmed Siddiqui responded, “They did something, recorded a video — it’s not a big issue. We’ve formed a new committee, and the members are all actively involved in BNP politics.”

According to statements from various levels of Chhatra Dal and BNP members, on August 5 — the day marked as “People’s Uprising Day” — a victory rally and a party meeting were held in Kaliakair. A few individuals allegedly participated who had prior affiliations with the Awami League. This protest was sparked by questions surrounding their presence.

Along with Chhatra Dal, many local BNP leaders were also present during the protest, including Abdur Rahman, Nasir Uddin, Mithun Bepari, and Zobayer Hossain.

Analysts suggest this incident reflects internal rifts and leadership crises within BNP’s Gazipur unit. It also raises new concerns about the party’s unity and internal loyalty.

Top local leaders have yet to issue any official statement. However, it is almost certain that the matter will be discussed at the central party level.
