Texas Flash Floods: Death Toll Rises to 81, Dozens Missing Including Campers

At least 81 people have been confirmed dead and at least 41 more remain missing after devastating flash floods ravaged Texas Hill Country. Water rescues are ongoing along the Guadalupe River, which rapidly swelled to the height of a two-story building early Friday morning. Officials reported today, Monday, July 7, 2025, that almost a dozen individuals are still unaccounted for from Camp Mystic, a children's summer camp in Kerr County.

Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha stated at a news conference on Sunday afternoon that 68 of the fatalities have occurred in Kerr County alone, a grim increase from the 43 deaths reported the previous night. The confirmed dead include 40 adults and 28 children, with 18 adults and 10 children yet to be identified.

Sheriff Leitha also confirmed that at least 10 Camp Mystic campers are missing, along with one counselor. This marks the first concrete number provided by officials regarding the missing campers, following Saturday's estimate that the number could be as high as 27. The sheriff had previously stated that approximately 750 children were at Camp Mystic when the floods struck.

Following Texas Governor Greg Abbott's request, President Trump signed a major disaster declaration for Kerr County on Sunday morning. Governor Abbott had visited the summer camp for the first time on Saturday, describing the scene as "horrendously ravaged" in a social media post.

"Today I visited Camp Mystic. It, and the river running beside it, were horrendously ravaged in ways unlike I've seen in any natural disaster," Abbott wrote. "The height the rushing water reached to the top of cabins was shocking. We won't stop until we find every girl who was in those cabins."

Rescue efforts are continuing as authorities search for the missing and assess the full extent of the damage caused by the unprecedented floods.
