Israeli forces block aid convoy in international waters

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have intercepted a humanitarian aid flotilla heading toward Gaza in the central Mediterranean Sea. Organizers claim that drones, communication jamming technology, and armed naval vessels were used to stop the convoy.

The “Global Sumud Flotilla” mission stated that its vessels were surrounded by military speedboats while in international waters. It further alleged that laser pointing and weapons display were used to force the crew into a state of surrender.

According to the organization, at least 22 out of 58 vessels have already been intercepted, while some ships are still attempting to proceed toward Gaza.

On the other hand, citing Israeli military sources, Israeli army radio reported that an operation has begun to take control of the aid vessels heading toward Gaza.

Israeli UN envoy Danny Danon claimed on social media that the convoy was stopped before reaching Israeli waters and is now under security control.

However, a spokesperson for the flotilla strongly condemned the operation, calling it a “direct attack on unarmed civilian vessels in international waters.” He claimed that more than 100 human rights activists and volunteers onboard are currently at risk.

According to organizers, the operation began when the convoy was about 600 nautical miles away, making it a military action conducted at a greater distance than in previous incidents.

Communication with the flotilla has been disrupted, and contact with several vessels has been completely lost. The organization also alleged psychological pressure was being created through communication interference.

Analysts say this incident has raised new international concerns amid ongoing Middle East tensions, further complicating the situation between humanitarian efforts and military interventions.

Human rights organizations and international observers have called for urgent action to ensure the safety of the convoy.
