Tarique Rahman’s Nomination Valid in Dhaka-17, Jamaat Candidate Also Cleared

In the 13th National Parliamentary Elections, BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s nomination for Dhaka-17 constituency has been declared valid. Simultaneously, the nomination of SM Khaliduzzaman, the candidate of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has also been approved.

On Saturday (January 3) afternoon, after verification at the Dhaka Divisional Commissioner’s office in Segunbagicha, the announcement was made by the Returning Officer of 13 parliamentary constituencies of Dhaka Metropolitan Area, Sharaf Uddin Ahmad Chowdhury.

The Returning Officer stated that the decision was made after completing all the procedures for nomination verification as per Election Commission rules. After examining the submitted documents, objections, and complaints, the nominations of Tarique Rahman and SM Khaliduzzaman were declared valid.

Representatives of BNP were present on behalf of Tarique Rahman at the time of the announcement, expressing satisfaction with the decision. No immediate response from other candidates or their representatives was obtained.

A total of 17 nominations were submitted for Dhaka-17. Following verification, symbols have been allocated to the candidates whose nominations were declared valid. Tarique Rahman was accompanied by BNP Chairperson’s advisor Abdus Salam and other party leaders. SM Khaliduzzaman of Jamaat-e-Islami attended with his supporters.
