Two-time Oscar-winning Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi has called on artists and filmmakers worldwide to unite against the recent bomb attacks by the United States and Israel in Iran.

In a statement released on Tuesday, he said that in the current crisis, staying silent is not an option. Creative individuals should speak out against this aggression. He noted that attacks on civilian infrastructure not only destroy buildings but directly impact people’s lives, safety, and dignity.

Farhadi said, “An attack on a country’s infrastructure clearly constitutes a war crime. We must set aside ideological differences and stand together to stop this inhumane action.”

His message was initially shared by Iranian journalist Mansour Jahani and later confirmed by his Paris-based producer.

Meanwhile, during the ongoing tension, the United States offered a temporary ceasefire to Iran, which Iran rejected, stating that it seeks a permanent end to the conflict rather than a temporary pause.

At the same time, U.S. President Donald Trump hinted in a social media message that the attacks could target a wider range, further raising concerns.

Farhadi, a significant figure in world cinema, won Oscars for his films A Separation and The Salesman. Since 2023, he has been residing outside Iran.

His upcoming film, Parallel Tales, is scheduled to be screened at the Cannes Film Festival in May, featuring French stars Isabelle Huppert, Vincent Cassel, and Catherine Deneuve.

Analysts suggest that during times of political instability worldwide, calls like Farhadi’s from influential cultural figures play an important role in shaping international public opinion. His statements highlight the necessity of standing for peace through art.
